Sighting the likes Prince, the brothers Gibb and Stevie Wonder as influences is always a good start. For Aldous RH, these influences have rubbed-off with beautifully funky results. 'Sensuality' is his latest effort, out 29 July via the taste-making Handsome Dad Records (Spring King, The Big Moon), and sees the Manchester singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist blend trilling, wah-wah guitars with a brilliantly strolling bass line and colourful riff work to create his laid-back, sun-kissed tone, as wonderfully retro as it is refreshing in a somewhat stagnant guitar scene. Having performed alongside the likes of Mac Demarco, DIIV and more recently as main support on Whitney’s UK tour, Aldous RH will perform at The Old Blue Last on Friday 12 August; sensual stuff. -G.O'B
